Residents invited to Public Meeting August 20 Regarding Big Creek Water Reclamation Facility Expansion | Print |

The Fulton County Department of Public Works invites residents to an upcoming community meeting on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 to learn more about planned expansion to the Big Creek Water Reclamation Facility Expansion. The meeting will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Chattahoochee Nature Center, 9135 Willeo Road, Roswell, GA 30075.

At the meeting, the Department will provide an update of project progress, provide an overview of the scope, timeline and benefits of the expansion, and hear community input.

The Public Works Department and its contract team have reached 60% design completion for the Progressive Design-Build of the Big Creek facility, including selection of the membrane technology to be used in the expansion. Improvements will result in increased capacity, higher quality water discharge, reduced odor, improved facility aesthetics, and restored reliability for the infrastructure.

Project construction will begin this fall as the contractor prepares the site for the new facility.  The contractor will be clearing, grading, and providing soil erosion control within the area that will house the principal footprint of the new facility.  Additional information about the work to be completed this fall will be on display during the meeting.

The Big Creek Water Reclamation Facility was first constructed in 1971 and has expanded a number of times, with a current capacity of 24 million gallons per day (mgd). The project will upgrade and expand the facility to an ultimate capacity of 38 million gallons per day to meet the projected wastewater treatment demands from future growth.

The plant serves the Big Creek watershed in North Fulton County including the Cities of Roswell, Alpharetta, portions of Milton, portions of Johns Creek, and areas of Cobb and Forsyth Counties. Treated water discharges to the Chattahoochee River under the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES).The facility is located at 1030 Marietta Highway, Roswell, GA 30075.
