Fulton County Commissioner Joan P. Garner, District 4, (top photo) expresses appreciation to the volunteers who passionately donate their time and talents to support those in need in their communities in Fulton County and across the country. Following an opening ceremony, before the groups began work on a service project to assist veterans, Commissioner Garner took time for photos with volunteers groups and individuals.

Community organizations, faith-based and charitable organization volunteers and elected officials participated in a Recognition Day for National Service on Tuesday, April 5, 2016. The event at Action Ministries Incorporated honored AmeriCorps and Senior Corps volunteers along with thousands of volunteers across the country.

Commissioner Garner commended volunteers for their countless service activities that include but are not limited to educating students to prepare them for employment, supporting veterans and military families and serving as companions to frail older citizens to help them to remain in their homes.

In Fulton County, AmeriCorps and Senior Corps volunteers serve in 140 locations and more than 50,000 locations across the country.
