Fulton County Commissioners proclaimed May as Older Americans Month during its May 1, 2019 meeting as a part of a 56-year national tradition of honoring the value and contributions of older Americans living in communities across the United States. The senior population in Fulton County totals 171,124 citizens, many of whom contributed to the growth and prosperity of the county and metro Atlanta.

The 2019 theme, ‚ÄúConnect, Create, Contribute,‚ÄĚ encourages older adults to:

  • Connect with friends, family, and services that support participation.
  • Create by engaging in activities that promote learning, health, and personal enrichment.
  • Contribute time, talent, and life experience to benefit others.

Fulton County’s Department of Senior Services will applaud the county’s seniors with a variety of celebratory events and activities that will showcase their contributions to the arts as well as continued wellness.   Highlights of upcoming activities include an Artist Crawl beginning at 9:00 a.m. at all four senior multipurpose facilities on Tuesday, May 14 and 15, 2019.   The Artist Crawl will feature the artistic skills of seniors in paintings, textiles, paper, decorative crafts, furniture refinishing and decorating as well as other artistic forms.

Other activities will include Health Fairs, live music, Evenings of the Arts, Mother’s Day celebrations and activities that will promote mental and physical wellness (see attached full calendar of events).

The celebration will end with a Senior Summit on May 30 at all four multipurpose facilities, and will include gatherings at Alpharetta Adult Services and Quality Living Services. To learn more Older Americans month activities, seniors and the community can visit www.fultoncountyga.gov

Citizens will learn more in the coming weeks regarding the Senior Summit, which will focus on the current and future needs of Fulton County’s ever growing senior population. For more information about Older Americans Month, call the STARline at 404-613-6000alt
