Fulton County BOC Approves GeoAg Phase II Program | Print |

 The Fulton County Board of Commissioners (BOC) voted on October 3, 2018 to continue the geological agricultural pilot in Fulton County. Phase I of the GeoAg workshop pilot was designed to reduce the impact of food deserts in the county by teaching residents how to grow microgreens and other food items using river rocks.

With positive community feedback, the BOC will continue hosting GeoAg Workshops in the original three facilities – Oak Hill Child, Adolescent, and Family Center, Wolf Creek Library, and Bowden Senior Center. Three new venues around the county will be added for a total of six workshop locations.

"We're excited that the program is expanding," stated Commissioner Marvin Arrington, Jr., District 5, who spearheaded the GeoAg pilot program earlier this summer.   "Not only are we adding Southwest Senior Center, The Darnell Senior Multipurpose Center, and Metropolitan Library, Oak Hill facility will be the the nation’s first GeoAg Academy where residents can come learn advanced topics in geological agriculture for free."

Additional aspects offered in Phase II of the GeoAg pilot will be:

  1. GeoAg's indoor winter gardening program where people have access to nutrition through the winter and;
  2. The GeoAg plastics to produce program which teaches how to recycle old water bottles into nutritional produce gardens for the family at home.

The Wolf Creek and Metropolitan library branches will host workshops on Saturdays while the Bowden Senior Center, Southeast Senior Center, Darnell Multipurpose Senior Center, and Oak Hill will host workshops on Mondays.   Local GeoAg volunteers will teach the basics of GeoAg on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Oak Hill.
