Our Mission


The mission of the Fulton County Public Health Institute is to develop public health Leaders, foster and support Leadership Strategies, support Research initiatives, and influence Policies and Practices toward the elimination of barriers that impede improving our public’s health.

Our Goals


To offer programs for leadership development and support, to college students, fellows, health professionals, researchers, and business leaders.
  • Promote and Engage in scholarly research, policy development, strategic communications, and career leadership development support.
  • Seek Leadership Models-Identify, catalogue and share successful health leadership models through our various Divisions to develop the next generation of leaders in the health system
  • Influence and enhance the development of health policies required to affect health nationally and globally.

Our Objectives


  • Provide relevant experiences for persons to become leaders in public health.
  • Recruit and motivate students for training programs in preparation for leadership development.
  • Create Strategies for influencing and enhancing health problems
  • Promote and Engage in scholarly research, policy development, strategic communications, and career leadership development support
  • Bring community and business leaders together through collaborations to advance policy
  • Seek collaborations and partnerships with various entities as a way to leverage its programs, research and learning opportunities and experiences.
  • Target problems in mental health, sexual health, prevention and other areas of health to demonstrate leadership strategies in researching and solving these problems.
  • Create models-Create, identify, examine, and catalogue diverse and successful academic and business leadership models to share with students, faculty, fellows and scholars at various levels of professional development.

Our Learning Objectives

  • Hands-on experience…Students are assigned structured duties which teach them to rigorously & cohesively work in a public health setting.
  • Analytical Observation… Through observation, students are provided the opportunity to acquire and sharpen both visual and cognitive analysis skills relevant to the contextual understanding of public health activities.
  • Theory… This challenges students to consider the rationale behind public health information, objectives, and functions. Students also learn to recognize the relationship between theory and application.
  • Active Scrutiny…This component prompts students to form new hypotheses, which hopefully inspires further public health questions, testing and evaluations

Supervisor's Responsibilities

  • Site supervisors support the program’s learning objectives to ensure that structure and optimal learning experiences are in tack.
  • This also includes, but is not limited to, goal developments, project assignments and assessments, progress documentation and evaluations.
  • Communication is maintained between the Fulton County Public Health Institute, the student, site supervisor and school to monitor progress.

Student's Responsibilities


  • Complete and submit all required forms and documents
  • Dress appropriately
  • Report to duty as scheduled
  • Notify supervisor or Institute Director of any needs, concerns or malfeasance.
